Another Great Tip

Another great tip for moms out there who wants to make cooking a breeze.

BROCCOLI
What can you do with the stem part of the broccoli? Don’t throw it away. Instead, peel of the thick skin, then when making your next tossed salad, cut the stems in thin slices, crosswise like a cucumber into it. Broccoli stems have a good and different taste, and not may people will recognize it.

SPAGHETTI SAUCE
Make spaghetti sauce from scratch, doubling ingredients, including the chopped meat. Your sauce could be use for spaghetti, pot roast, beans and other dishes that call for sauce.

CUT FAT
Don’t coat the vegetable with oil or butter to add flavor. A better idea: sprinkle steamed or lightly sautéed vegetable with lemon, lime or orange zest immediately after cooking (1 teaspoon per 1 pound vegetables); toss and season to taste with salt and pepper, fresh basil or tarragon; minced garlic too if you like.

My Few Ways To Say "I love You"

Like what they say, there are 101 ways or probably more to say I love you to that special someone or just by simply saying that you care. But anyway I won’t be able to give you those 101ways and more, but I’m sure I can come up with a few.

Did Pretty Good With Bills IQ

Wow, I went to Bills IQ and was really surprised with my score, I got 92% (sorry I can’t show the picture here) I did really good. At least I knew something about, Debt consolidation, Debt relief, Debt help, Consolidate debt and Bankruptcy not bad ha? But as I was going through with all the questions, can’t help but wonder, hmmmm? Because some of the questions, really caught me off guard. I don’t know what to answer, I wanted to leave it blank, but I can’t, for I won’t be able to continue taking the test to the next level if I do that. But anyway, some of the questions that leave me hanging were: do you have a will? Or do you have 401k? We were actually talking about making a will and starting 401k contribution the last time, but we things just got so busy lately and we forgot about it. I didn’t realized that this is going to be part of financial security. All I thought is that, when your debt free or if your debt is manageable then your good to go. Since this topic has now been brought up again, I should really talk to my husband about this, and no matter how busy we are, with our day to day activities, we should find time to talk about this. Because I think this is really something important and it’s our family’s future that is at stake here. Like what I usually said, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so better be prepared than be sorry later on. That’s why, thanks to BillsIQ, it helped me realized more about financial security. After all this is all what we wanted right? security for our family's future.

Another cooking tip

Now, here's another tip for mother's out there or anybody else who has the passion for cooking. Hope you'll find this useful.

CABBAGE
When cutting cabbage in the blender for slaw, line the sieve with about three layers of net, cut much larger than the sieve and dump the chopped cabbage into drain. If you’re in a hurry, gather the top of the net together and squeeze all the water out.

CARROTS STICKS

After peeling the carrots, lay them on chopping board and slice each one down the middle the long way. Then turn each half flat side down on the board and push the knife through lengthwise from the top down, making the strips as thin as desired. Just one way to get uniform sticks faster.

For mommy’s out there, who loves to cook for their family every night and want to simplify things, well here are some few things for you and hope you’ll fine it useful.

Fitness Assessment: Measure Your Fat - Not Weight

In today’s world, if you look fit, slim, trim and slender or however you wanted to call it, then people might think that you’re a healthy person. But if you are fat, chubby, and overweight or words like that, then you know what people might have to say, that you’re at risk of health problems like high blood, cholesterol, blood sugar and to mentioned a few . But is weight really the foundation of having a healthy body? Is having a slender or fit looking body enough for you to get away from this health problems mentioned above?

I read an article that says It's Not Your Weight That Matters--It's How Much of Your Weight is Fat” I think this is pretty clear and simple. No matter how much your body weigh, (I’m not saying that it’s ok to be overweight) but for me, as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise and discipline to one’s self is still the best way to go. Like what I said, it doesn’t matter what your body’s weight is, as long as it has less fat on it. After all even people with “standard” weight, continue to be unaware of the reality that they may still be of health danger.

PRESS RELEASE:
Fitness Assessment: Measure Your Fat, Not Your Weight
It’s not how much you weigh, it’s how much of your weight is fat.
Simple test determines your fat content, health risks.

Carpinteria, CA – August 20, 2008 - Within the past week, the American Heart Association, Journal of the American Medical Association and the American Cancer Society have cited new studies that seem to indicate the deteriorating health of Americans may not be related solely to weight--but to declining overall fitness levels.

While it is virtually impossible today to remain oblivious to the importance of exercise for staying healthy, there has been a marked emphasis on “weight” versus “fitness” in western society’s perception of health and wellness. Consequently, many people of “normal” weight continue to be uniformed of the fact that they may still be at risk for elevated levels of blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar if they lead a sedentary (inactive) lifestyle.

It has long been known that there are adverse effects associated with physical inactivity. Adults who are less active are at greater risk of dying of heart disease and developing diabetes, colon cancer, and high blood pressure. Illnesses related to physical inactivity and poor diet cause at least 300,000 deaths each year in the U.S.

Body mass index (BMI), which is calculated through a height-to-weight ratio alone has been the standard method of measuring a person’s “fatness” or “thinness” since 1950’s and 60’s, when obesity was becoming a noticeable medical concern in the U.S. As a result, being at a “normal” BMI weight is not necessarily a reliable indicator of health.

In fact, physically active individuals who have more lean tissue than their sedentary counterparts, as well as taller people, often have a BMI that classifies them as obese when they actually have healthy body fat levels. Likewise, and more dangerous, slender or thin but inactive individuals often have a BMI that puts them within normal, or even underweight, ranges when they actually have high levels of body fat.

Because of the overemphasis on BMI that has developed over the last few decades, these “skinny fat” people often remain unaware that they are at an elevated risk for developing diseases typically associated with obesity until they are already facing health issues.

According to the International Sports Sciences Association, an organization that has educated and certified personal trainers for more than 2 decades, using a quick but reliable method of measuring various body circumferences (e.g. neck, thighs, upper arm, waist, hip) to assess total body fat better determines one’s body composition (fat vs muscle) than BMI alone. Measuring circumferences also provides personal trainers and clients with a very easy way to gauge clients’ progress.

“For people to begin to take a proactive approach to their health, they really need to know what their percentage of fat versus muscle is.” said Dr. Sal Arria, CEO and Co-Founder of the ISSA. Dr. Arria goes on to add, “most studies have shown that by just adding ONE circumference measurement at the waist to BMI, you can better predict a patient’s risk for type 2 diabetes and for all-cause mortality. Waist circumference is also about twice as good at predicting future coronary heart disease than BMI alone.”

The ISSA believes that personal trainers and health clubs should be utilizing circumference measurements as another tool to assess body fat because trainers can achieve proficiency with a few hours of practice and when done properly, the results can be replicated.

Patrick Gamboa, ISSA Vice President of Education, cautions that a person’s true fitness cannot be assessed by body measurements alone. True fitness must also take into account strength, aerobic capacity and flexibility measurements to most accurately predict longevity. Most gyms offer this type of assessment for free to their members.

About the ISSA
Since 1988, the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) has provided certification and continuing education to more than 100,000 wellness professionals in 85 countries around the globe. The ISSA offers a core personal training certification as well as eight additional specialized fitness certifications.

Her baby boy weight 8.12 pounds and according to her manager Becky Aguila sent through text that both the mother and the baby are doing fine. So to you Jennylyn congratulations

Thanks to those hollywood memories of yours

Are you the type of person who would tell a girl about some of the Hollywood famous and memorable lines? Like in the movie Casa Blanca with Leonardo De Caprio “Kiss me, kiss me as if it were the last time”. That is so romantic. But of course you should be doing that to a girl you just met, or I think its ok especially if you think that the girl had also a crush on you. But for me, I think this is really music to one’s ear if you hear this from you husband. Don’t you think that’s kind of romantic? Well not that he is dying or something like that , but its like treat each moment when your together as if there’s no more tomorrow.

But anyway if you have some famous Hollywood lines that you want to share about, or want to know if it will really works or not. Then give it a try to a game called Ultimate Flirting Championship by Extreme Style by VO5. You should give it a try to find out if your Hollywood memorable line really work to have that Victory Hair

Thanks to my cousin

My long been awaited trip to my country is only going to be in a few weeks. I thought I won’t be able to find a solution to my bottles problems. I was just going to bring at least 10 baby bottles for my carry-on bag during our entire flight. Good thing my cousin from Canada mentioned about these disposable drop-in liners, I don’t have any clue about this. But anyway I went to wal-mart store and bought the 8 oz of disposable bottle liner. Knowing that it will work to any regular bottle so I gave it a try, the result didn’t turned out the way I expect it to be. It’s because drop in liners would only worked for baby bottles designed for drop in liners also. Good idea we went to Target yesterday and saw the kind of baby bottle specifically design for drop-ins. Went home and gave it a try and WALA it worked, and I just love it

Do you have that Victory Look?

A lot of people commented which of course I heard from my friends that I’m a snobbish type of person; they just don’t have the guts to tell it right in front of my face. I don’t blame them, I heard that hundreds of times already and it wound’nt come as a surprised. Especially when I was still a working student back home in the Library, some of the students would look at me and smiled, and they expect me to do the same I guest which doesn’t happened all the time, and if I don’t smile I’m Ms. Snobbish one’s again. When I had by bf at that time, he said that that looking like a snob type of person is also one thing that he likes about me. For some men they find it discouraging but for others they think it’s a good thing so that people wouldn’t think that you’re an easy type of person. Its not that I’ am, I guest I’m not just a friendly looking person. As they say, “don’t judged the book by its cover but for its content”. You can never tell that behind a person’s look, is a sweet, loving and fun to be with type of attitude that there’s always a girly and soft side of me in spite of my snobbish look.

Love this new found Ice Shaver

I was at the house of my friend 2weeks ago for a birthday party. She served halo halo for dessert and i find her ice shaver very convenient. Especially if im a big fan of halo halo also. With the machine that shes using or the ice shaver its very easy to use. you dont have to make block of ice in advance just to be able to make halo halo, anytime you feel eating one, just go ahead and get some ice cubes in your freezer. Well I'm not advertising this product or anything like that, but if your a big fan of halo halo this is very convenient especially if you have a big party.

Lets help make a world without Alzheimer's

I remember few years ago before my grandmother died, at the age of 74, she’s been showing signs of memory loss. She keeps forgetting freshly learned information; she doesn’t even remember where she placed her pension check and a lot of times it gets lost. At first we thought it’s only because my grandmother had a blurred vision due to eye cataracts. But that didn’t happen one’s, so we kinda suspect that there’s something wrong with her. Aside from that we always observed changes in mood or behavior or rapid mood swings from calm to anger to tears for no apparent reason. Which thought at that time that she only missed her kids and grandchildren. It was really hard for us to see my grandmother in that kind of situation. We just accept the fact that she is suffering from what we called Alzheimer’s. She was already 71years old at that time when we started observing that kind of behavior or probably at little bit earlier, we thought that it is really part of aging. But I did some research about Alzheimer’s disease and according to a German physician named Alois Alzheimer, who first described it in 1906. that Alzheimer is a progressive and fatal brain disease. As many as 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and it is fatal. Today it is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.
That is why the Alzheimer’s Association will have conduct Alzheimer's Memory Walk, this is the nation’s largest event to raise consciousness and resources for Alzheimer care, support and research – and it calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer's. There are walks in more than 600 communities. A typical Memory Walk is a 2-3 mile walk held on a weekend morning in the fall. By teaming up with the Alzheimer's Association, you can walk with a purpose – and move us closer to a world without Alzheimer's. Am sure together we can make a difference.

Met new friend

I was invited to a friend’s birthday party yesterday in Fallon, It was nice to be able to attend such gatherings and see your friend’s one’s in a while. I had fun though, because mostly of the birthday celebrant’s guest are Filipinas, and you know how we are (Filipinas in general) every time there’s gatherings, were always loud. And not only that, I also had a chance to meet new friend who just arrived from the Philippine last January, shes actually from Davao Cit. And she also invited most of us for another friend’s birthday this coming Sunday. I think I may be able to go, and met new friends again, especially Filipinas who just lived in the same development like us. So I’m looking forward for that besides its only going to be a 15minutes drives from our house.

Pretty Cool Digital Scales

I made an entry on my blog few months ago about the digital scale… Though I don’t own one yet, but I would love to have one of this in my kitchen. I love their design, colors and of course the price. It’s very affordable especially if you’re the type of person who couldn’t live with out a weighing scale, for me this is the kind of product worth investing in and it will surely look good in your kitchen for -food scales or bathroom, they will even match the theme of your bathroom if you have one, because like what I said they come in different colors like black, navy blue, white, tarragon green, soft pink and for Halloween pumpkin orange, your company for your Halloween party will be surprise because you even have an orange food scales in your kitchen. How cool would that be?

Just loving the changed

I’m so excited for my little one for its been more than a week now that he’s already facing forward in the rear window. That means he has out grown his baby car seat already (car seat use for newborn) and he just love it. I know keeping kids safe in the car is getting more confusing all the time. There are convertible seats, combination seats, booster seats — even seats with cup holders and special detachable pillows. Not to mention complicated car seat laws, which differ state by state and seem to change every few months. But anyway, my son love the recent changed he experienced for he will be able to see what’s around him already. I feel great that I don’t have to worry about him anymore because now I can see him perfectly from my rear view mirror perfectly…

Counting DOWN YOUR DAY WITH YOUR BABY

I read on the baby talk magazine for august issue on how most moms count down the day with their baby with a special wake-up or bed-time rituals. And here are some of the ideas they shared for bonding moments.

For Good morning:

1. Use your fingers or a stuffed animal to gently tickle your baby awake.
2. Starts slowly with cuddle time and a book to improve alertness and mood.
3. Say “Good morning” in a several languages.
4. Open the window shades and greet the day with your baby.
5. Start the morning with an “I love you” to the “baby in the mirror”

For a Good Evening:

1. Relax and wind blown down the “Bedtime B’s” – bath, brush teeth, book, bottle, blankie, bear hug and bed.
2. Slip into sleepy by cuddling and reading books together in a rocking chair
3. Name all the people that love your baby
4. Give your baby a massage or rub in his little tummy
5. Count down to sweet dreams…

Romantic Thursday Evening with my family

Few months back, when we were having our Valentine’s Dinner in Fair Child Oyster Bar in Silver Legacy Resort and Casino hubby told me that “he would love to bring me to Sterling Seafood and Steakhouse, I was hesitant at first and told him that its ok if we wont be able to dine in Sterling Seafood and Steakhouse because I find their food too pricey. But then again, it’s a fancy restaurant and I’m sure you get what you paid for. Well the day finally came, last Thursday night was the night when hubby brought us (with our son of course) to Sterling Seafood and Steakhouse, place was really nice, service was good, the ambiance was perfect, that was the first time we ever go out as a family in that kind of setting, were we are all dress-up even my 10months old son. Place was really romantic because there’s Jazz in the West Wing featuring Jazz Vocalist CeCe Gable. For me it was just a night to remember where 3 of us were just having fun. Good food, great music with the company of my two boys, well what more could I ask for…Just thank God for the lovely evening.
