Im not a super woman

Hi guys, it’s been a week now since we got back from our 3days trip to Idaho, I haven’t really settled everything yet , you know put everything where they should belong and stuff like that because I still have a lot of things to do, like laundry, dusting, vacuum at least 2times a week if possible, folding the laundry, and a lot more, and of course not to forget the most important thing to do in my “to do list” is my mommy duty (that always comes first, no matter what) Im not a superwoman or I don’t have a super powers to do everything all at ones, wish I have, hehehe but that doesn’t work that way. Especially now that my baby boy is already crawling, men he’s all over the place now… Its funny because a lot of my friends has been telling me the same thing, that this is the stage where you have to run after them. Before one’s you put him or lay him down on the same place minutes later he will still be there, or not exactly, kinda…he may be rolling all over the place but its not the same as he is crawling…So now you really have to keep an eye on him…and I think this is really the time to make the house child friendly, although we’ve been planning to do it few months ago and bought some of the safety stuff like plug protectors, door knobs covers, cabinet and drawer latches, furniture corner cushions and who knows what else do we need. But we just doesn’t have the time really.

The Truth about whitening soap...

(A good friend email me this, just thought of sharing it also)

Skin whitenings are both an obsession of Indians and Pinoys. Read on.
The Truth Behind Whitening Lotions and CreamsLet’s face it — the average Filipino is obsessed with a fair complexion. Most dusky Pinay beauties would give an arm and a leg to acquire pasty white skin, which we refer to as ‘mala-porselana’. It’s quite sad to see fresh, smooth-skinned (albeit dark) people ruin the texture and glow of their complexions by using every possible cream, lotion, soap, serum, face pack and what-have-you to become fair. The only ones benefiting from this craze are the fairness product companies who are laughing all the way to the bank. Don’t get me wrong — there are chemicals which work and there are ways to get rid of unwanted pigmentation, but you need to have the correct knowledge of what’s good for you and what’s not. Check out the ingredients on your fairness product package and read on to get the low-down on what works and what doesn’t:
1.Hydroquinone: This is one of the most effective whitening compounds known today. However concentrations used matter immensely and individual skin responses vary. Most over-the-counter fairness products contain very low amounts (less than 1 percent). However, irritation of the skin is so common with this chemical that the US FDA (Food & Dry Association) has plans to ban it.
Also, here’s something that will make you sit up — overuse of this chemical, ie over months or years, can cause a condition called ‘ochronosis’, which turns the skin black or greyish-black. In desperation, users apply even more of the fairness cream to get rid of the blackish skin tone and instead end up worsening it, not realizing in this vicious cycle that the cream is the culprit, not the cure. The safe way to use hydroquinone is under a dermatologist’s guidance, in approved pharmaceutical combinations with other compounds that neutralize the irritation and boost the effects.
2. Kojic Acid: This is a relatively newer discovery — a Vitamin C derivative that blocks a certain step in the production of melanin in the skin. Melanin is the brown pigment present within the layers of skin and is responsible for a dark complexion. Research has shown that only high concentrations of kojic acid, as used by dermatologists in pharmaceutical creams (two percent and above) are effective in blocking melanin production. So commercial products that claim to contain Vitamin C, its derivatives, lemon extracts etc usually have amounts too tiny to be very efficient.
3. Retinoic Acid: This is a Vitamin A derivative that works by peeling off the upper layers of the skin. In the process, dark pigmented skin cells are shed off and the lower layers which come up to take their place are somewhat lighter. Dermatologists use retinoic acid very effectively in combination with hydroquinone and steroid creams to lighten patchy pigmentation, but by itself it can cause irritation. Commercial whitening and anti-aging products use tiny concentrations and don’t incorporate other ingredients that can reduce the chances of skin irritation. If overused, therefore, there is a chance of developing raw, red, burnt-looking skin.

4. Plant Extracts: This is a common term used by most cosmetic brands to include anything and everything from liquorice to bearberry to mulberry to grapeseed to arbutin and practically every other possible fruit and flower essence. Some scientific studies have revealed that liquorice, arbutin and bearberry all possess mild whitening qualities, but the results are never as good as pharmaceutical combinations used medically. These can be used as adjuvant to a medical whitening program but in themselves they are not dramatically effective. Also, consider these statistics — a truckload of strawberries is needed to produce one liter of alpha hydroxy acid. So if your product contains a measly one to two percent of a plant extract, how much of an effect can it have?
Apart from all this, there is always a chance of developing irritation, allergies or sun sensitivity by using products that cause you to break out into itchy rashes, redden the skin, cause burning sensations or then sunburn, followed by pigmentation. So if you must use a fairness product, make sure you test it first on a tiny patch of your skin. I won’t even insult your intelligence by commenting on fairness soaps and face washes, as common sense will tell you that any whitening chemical they contain will never remain on the skin — it will get washed off while rinsing. The only darkness they remove is that of dirt.
So if you have a healthy, beautiful, dark complexion, learn to love yourself for what you are and appreciate the good quality of your skin rather than lament over its color. Pulling a Michael Jackson makeover from black to white is not free from risks and is not possible for everyone. It’s a conditioned mindset, enforced by advertisements that translate fair skin into more job opportunities, marriage proposals and movie offers. Remember, the radiance of good health speaks for itself. author: Dr Parul S Kolhe is an MBBS, DDV and DNB in dermatology, www.rediff.com

A fun 3days visit to Idaho

Well today was Memorial Day and had a lot of thing to do, things to do around the house, like laundry, attending to my sons needs, putting away all the stuff that we brought with us during our 3days trip to Idaho where my husband sister is. My hubby’s weekend is Friday and Saturday now, and since Monday is holiday because it’s a memorial day and he’d been wanting to visit his sister for sometime now so we though that this would be the good time to do it, so I told him why don’t you switched the Sunday and Monday, so in other words, instead of taking Monday off because it’s a holiday and had to work on Sunday so it will be the other way around, and sure it does, when he get everything settle down with his schedule the next thing you knew is I was already packing for our 3days trip. It was actually a long drive around 6 and half to 7hours I believed but good thing even though we hit a few rain on our way but wasn’t really bad after all. And I’m just so proud with my little boy, I thought he will start to fuzz because after all it was really a long trip but he was just having so much fun just like us. And thank God we all arrived in Burley Idaho safe and sound in spite of the 1 wrong turned that we made. We were actually trying to take the short cut that my sister in-law showed us a couple of years ago, and it turn out, that the wrong turned that we did lead us to a much easy to remember road. So not bad after all huh? It was just hard to remember especially if there’s not much landmark to consider start with, for we’re in the middle of the farm.

But anyway we all had a great time, my in-laws were just so happy and excited to see the little one, but just like any other vacation, everything’s too short and we need to drive back home again… After all we all had a great time, and its always nice to visit relatives ones in a while.

GAS Relief

Here's some useful tips for you guys from Laura Broadwell. Have rising gas prices got you down? save money and fuel with these savvy tips from the American Automobile Association.

KEEP YOUR CAR IN GOOD REPAIR- Simple things like maintaining proper tire pressure and changing your car's air filter and spark plugs regularly will make your engine run more efficiently.

DON'T BE A PACK RAT- Overpacking your car and putting things up on the roof racks cuts down on fuel efficiency.

BUY REGULAR- If your car will run on regular gas (and doesn't need premium unleaded), save yourself some money by not upgrading.

SLOW DOWN- Driving at the speed limit and braking gently does more than give a smoother ride; it can improve your car's fuel efficiency by as much as 15 percent.

Not bad at all...

I was a little bit busy lately, a friend of mine whom I met while shopping at Kohls (oh I just love that store, they always have good buys) few years back who actually become a good friend of mine, anyway she recommend us to the company called Superior Healthy System, what they do is that, they will call you and set up an appointment for them to be able to come to your house and do the 1hour demonstration about their product… I was just curious what their product is really all about that’s why I agree for them to come at the house last Saturday, April 26 at around 10 in the morning was the date we agreed upon but they have to call me that Friday to confirm and to get the direction going to our house, because since it’s a new housing development you wont be able to retrieved it online like map quest or stuff like that. Unfortunately my hubby had to work that Saturday so I was waiting for them to call me that Friday to cancel the appointment but they didn’t. Another lady called me again the following week to try to reschedule the demonstration again, because apparently there was a misunderstanding. So in the end since she seems nice on the phone and was sorry for the misunderstanding. So I agree to reschedule it again for the following Saturday which is May 3 and thank God somebody did really showed up even though he’s only 45minutes late. So after the Demonstration I think that their product seems nice and we were just amazed by the strong suction of their vacuum. But then at the end after everything is said and done and after giving us the quote for the total cost of their vacuum and air purifier we were blown away by the prize, $ 2,700 something for the 2 air purifier and 1 vacuum, and the cost will still go down if were going to trade in our old vacuum cleaner. And we said no, because we only bought our vacuum cleaner last year for 35 percent lesser than what they’re asking and besides I’m pretty happy with the performance of our Kirby Vacuum cleaner though their product is a little bit upgraded but its fine with me I can live without it. But anyway they gave us a steak knife set just for listening to their demonstration… So i guess its not bad after all huh?

"Striped Icebergs in Antartica

Got this email from a good friend frank and its just too beautiful not to pass this on... (thanks frank)
Striped icebergs - Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form. When an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a green stripe. Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea.
